Rackspace Introduces the Managed Cloud

December 17th, 2010

Rackspace Managed Cloud HostingRackspace has always been well known for high quality hosting and “fanatical” support, and this week they’ve raised the bar even more. Today Rackspace announced its new “Managed Cloud” offering, which expands their highly respected managed services to the Rackspace Cloud.

Bringing together cloud servers with Rackspace’s managed services, Rackspace Managed Cloud will be especially useful for companies that want the convenience and affordability of the cloud, but don’t have the expertise available in-house to manage it. The new service includes several new features that allow companies to more easily migrate to the cloud, including:

. 24×7 rapid response to alerts . OS and application infrastructure layer support . Technical guidance . Admin access to cloud servers

Rackspace will be offering Managed Cloud in the UK in the first half of 2011.

The announcement of Rackspace’s Managed Cloud comes on the heels of its acquisition of Cloudkick, a developer of applications for managing cloud environments. The acquisition is a natural and will go a long way towards helping Rackspace maintain its lead in this area. Cloudkick’s app gives companies using applications on the cloud a convenient dashboard that shows key performance information. Cloudkick’s management application helps keep down costs while improving cloud efficiency. Cloudkick is a remarkably young company-just two years old-but as “Venture Beat” pointed out today, their technology “does something a lot of technology fails to do-it just works.” The purchase of Cloudkick was a great decision on the part of Rackspace, who is rapidly becoming “King of the Cloud.”
