Coming Soon: Rackspace Cloud 2.0.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

March 31st, 2011

Rackspace Cloud 2.0.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod TouchRackspace, a leading provider of managed hosting, cloud hosting and related applications, has just announced the first update to their Rackspace Cloud 2.0 iOS app. More importantly, Rackspace’s update comes with the following improvements or fixes to the existing Cloud application:

Bug Fixes

For starters, Rackspace has fixed a few bugs. One noticeable bug would occur in a few situations where where calls to the Rackspace API would be unresponsive or appear to be unresponsive. Now that this bug has been fixed, the Rackspace Cloud 2.0 iOS app should have more reliable performance.

Puppet Bootstrapping

Rackspace has also introduced Opscode Chef Bootstrapping for Cloud Servers with the launch of 2.0 – making it easy and convenient to set up servers quickly. However and for those who prefer using Puppet from Puppet Labs, there is a way to bootstrap Cloud Servers with Puppet. To do so, just go to the app’s settings, turn on Puppet and then enter the host name for your Puppet Master.

New Cloud Server View

The new cloud server also brings the following three things front and center: 1. Checking on the status of your servers, 2. Rebooting any of your servers that might be in trouble, and 3. Ping your servers in order to see just how responsive they are. By bringing these items front and center, you will be able to just glance and use a button bar that will give you quick access for rebooting and pinging purposes.

These improvements make the Rackspace Cloud 2.0 iOS app a much more robust Cloud server application.
