According to a report on KVUE Television in Austin, Texas, web hosting giant HostGator is planning to hire hundreds of people for their new Austin headquarters. HostGator is moving their headquarters from Houston to Austin, with an eye towards completing the move by July.
The news report gives you a few clues as to what you can expect, noting that in HostGator’s Houston office, employees still get plenty of perks that used to be common in Internet companies during the height of the dotcom boom. The Houston office has a game room with a pool table and air hockey, and the news report excitedly reports that the CEO is in the habit of buying food for the staff.
The hundreds of new jobs will be especially welcome in Austin, where everybody wants to live, but there are not enough jobs to go around. Unemployment has been high everywhere, and Austin has been hit hard, with nearly 20,000 county residents getting unemployment benefits. To make it even more challenging, college grads are just now getting into the market-and Austin is just one of those places that you never want to leave after you graduate.
HostGator will provide up to 400 jobs at the new Austin headquarters, and hiring will start in July. The company is especially on the lookout for chat techs, who will start out at $12 to $15 an hour; and Linux system administrators, who will start at about $40,000 a year. Having some knowledge of Linux is a big plus, according to the news report. Although hiring won’t start until July, you can get a jump on your competition by going to the HostGator web site and submitting an online application.
