HostGator Takes the Prize

March 15th, 2010

HostGator Voted 2010 Reader's Choice AwardsAbout.com, a New York Times company, has declared the winners of its 2010 Reader’s Choice awards, and HostGator chomped down and won in three separate categories.

Readers were polled during January to determine the best web hosting provider. Readers responded with their preferred hosting service, and a short description about why they chose their favorite.

Readers had an opportunity to vote in 15 different categories. HostGator took the prize for “Best Cheap or Free Web Hosting,” “Best Linux/UNIX Web Hosting Provider”, and “Best reseller Web Hosting Provider.”

According to the About.com survey, a good hosting provider offers “good customer service, high uptime and guarantees, and low prices or value for what you pay.” Other nominees for “Best Cheap or Free Web Hosting” included 2AM Network, DotEasy, and Hawk Host. In the category of “Best Linux/UNIX Web Hosting Provider,” HostGator also nailed first place, and was followed by nominees including ICDSoft, Linode, SliceHost, and Webserve. For “Best reseller Web Hosting Provider,” first-place HostGator was followed by Webserve, GreenGeeks, and Dathorn.

HostGator is one of the largest providers of shared, reseller, and dedicated web hosting. The company was founded in 2002 by Brent Oxley, and is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and now has over 8,000 servers under management and hosts three million domains, giving them control over two percent of the world’s Internet traffic.
