Go Daddy To Sell .XXX Domain Names

One of the biggest web hosting providers and domain name registrars in the world, Go Daddy, will soon offer customers the ability to register .XXX domain name extensions. Go Daddy will be one of the first in the industry to do so.

As Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons explained, “We’ve said from the beginning … when it comes to dotXXX, we are going to listen to our customers. A large number of our customers have spoken … and there is a demand for the controversial new domain name extension – for both brand protection purposes and for new names. So what are we going to do? Go Daddy is going to give our customers what they want!”

The new .XXX domain name extension is aimed towards the adult entertainment industry. Visitors as well as webmasters will be able to remember the URLs of the websites more easily through the use of the .XXX extension, while users, including parents, will also be able to identify and be warned about the type of site they are visiting right away.

The operator of the .XXX extension, ICM Registry, has given Go Daddy the go ahead to start providing the new domain name extension weeks ago. Go Daddy plans to give trademark holders the opportunity to register the new extension during the so-called Sunrise period, which will begin in early September. Everyone else will be able to begin registering domain names with the new extension sometime in October. However, the pricing and registration dates are still not completely finalized.
