Demand for Mac OS X based cloud services is on the rise. With most web hosting companies typically offering a choice between Windows or Linux platforms, Apple is often not an option that is even considered. Yet there is a growing need among those who wish to run native OS X Server applications on their web sites.
Go Daddy has taken the lead in this area, releasing a new Mac Hosting solution. Their Cloud Server powered by Mac OS X solution provides virtual dedicated servers running the Apple operating system. Technical support is provided in the background by Go Daddy, and customers of the new offering are able to focus on managing their native OS X applications on their virtual server. It is now possible for administrators to run a Mac virtual server, taking advantage of available applications such as Mail Services, Hosting, iChat Server, Wiki Server, and iCal Server.
Users will also be able to manage their server through a standard Mac interface, so those who are accustomed to the Mac will feel at home immediately. The open architecture will allow Windows users to also connect to the server. The plan is powered by Apple’s Xserve technology, and Parallels Server.
Several plans are available, and customers are able to choose amount of RAM, storage and bandwidth they need. Upgrading is easy at any time. The deal is available through a partnership between Go Daddy, and Apple and Parallels. Like the other Go Daddy plans, the new offering comes with high-quality 24/7 customer support.
