In the advertising business, super bowl ads are the gold standard. Companies spend big money to produce them, and of course, it’s some of the most expensive ad space in the business. These are without a doubt some of the most talked-about and remembered advertisements ever since “Where’s the beef?”.
Go Daddy has done it again, following up last year’s Super Bowl, and there’s already a lot of buzz about the ad, which will bring back the stunning Go Daddy spokesperson and race car driver Danica Patrick. According to TiVo, last year’s ad (also featuring Patrick) was the most watched advertisement with more viewership than any other.
On their Godaddy.com web site, the company is previewing the ad with some teaser clips, one featuring Danica dressed like Marilyn Monroe in the classic movie, “The Seven Year Itch.” For those of you who are too young to remember, that’s the one with the famous scene where Marilyn Monroe’s skirt flutters up in the breeze. Viewers are invited to rate the ads.
Visitors to the Go Daddy web site will also get a treat with the tantalizing look at the ad that was banned by the Super Bowl. The whimsical ad, also narrated by Danica, featuring a fictional, cross-dressing football player named “Lola” who retires from the game to open an online lingerie store, which is of course hosted by Go Daddy. You won’t see this one on the Super Bowl, but you can see it on the Internet, and you’ll have a chance to vote on whether or not you agree with the censors that it’s offensive.
