Just as the controversy over GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons shooting an elephant in Africa was beginning to die down, the man himself brought it back to the forefront of everyone’s attention. He has done so by tweeting a link to the cover story in the America’s 1st Freedom magazine, published by the NRA, which is focused on Parsons’ defense for his actions. This incident has certainly not done much for GoDaddy’s PR, so it is unclear why they keep bringing it up rather then letting it die down completely.
Obviously people are divided over this argument. Parsons’ loudest opponent has been PETA and most of the article is actually attacking that organization. But, other people, not just animal rights activists, were offended by Parsons’ killing an elephant. A lot of GoDaddy customers went so far as to change web hosts and domain name registrars to show their displeasure. The competition took full advantage of this by offering special deals, which featured donating some of the earnings to elephant-related causes for switching to their services.
Bob Parsons has, on the other hand, continued to defend himself since the event happened. He has done so through the press, on Twitter, and even in GoDaddy press releases, which were not directly related to this event. However, GoDaddy didn’t actually do a lot of damage control after the video of Parsons killing the elephant caused such an outrage. They released no press releases dealing with the incident, but the actual video was edited later to give it a completely different tone.
