cPanel, the leading provider of web hosting automation tools, and Open-Xchange, the leading provider of business-class email and groupware for cloud computing providers, have just announced that they have joined forces to allow web hosts and other service providers to offer both advanced email and teamwork capabilities to their hosting customers.
The integration of cPanel with Open-Xchange will make for the easy deployment and billing of Open-Xchange for service providers as well as customers. Moreover, web hosters are now able to offer Open-Xchange to their shared-hosting customers and to users of Virtual Private Servers by simply installing a software package along with cPanel.
Meanwhile, customers also have the option of easily switch from simple webmail user interfaces to the more modern and AJAX-based Open-Xchange interfaces. This will give customers access to advanced email, contact, calendar and task management features plus advanced groupware features, including document sharing, information management and social network integration.
In addition, Open-Xchange comes with unique Social OX features that give users the ability to consolidate existing webmail accounts (e.g. Gmail and Yahoo) into a folder in Open-Xchange for easier management. Moreover, contact details from various professional and social networks such as LinkedIn, Xing and Facebook can also be added automatically to an Open-Xchange address book.
It should also be noted that Open-Xchange has more than 24 million users, making it the world’s leading technology supplier of hosted groupware while cPanel´s customer base includes many of the world’s largest hosting providers such as Go Daddy, HostGator, LiquidWeb and WiredTree.
The integration of cPanel and Open-Xchange was also previewed this week at HostingCon in San Diego.
