Bob Parsons of GoDaddy On a Humanitarian Mission to Haiti

Bob Parsons of Go Daddy On a Humanitarian Mission to HaitiApart from being a leading hosting provider, GoDaddy is also renowned for doing things quite a bit differently than the rest. Because of this reputation, it is really not surprising that Go Daddy Founder and CEO Bob Parsons travelled to Haiti in order to deliver medical supplies. He also went there to learn how the Go Daddy donations to the area, which totaled $1-million are being spent. And then he, while there, decided he wanted to do even more.

Seeing the conditions in Haiti, Parsons spontaneously decided to match every donation made through Go Daddy’s “Round Up for Charity” initiative. This is the program that Go Daddy launched in the beginning of April, 2011. Through it, Go Daddy customers have the option to “Round Up” their purchases to the nearest dollar, while this money then goes to help Haiti. So far, generous Go Daddy customers have already donated $20,000 in this way. And Parsons will now match that, meaning that the Hope for Haiti charity organization will get $40,000 and counting. This is on top of the $1 million that Parsons has already donated to help Haiti rebuild.

Bob Parsons and his wife Renee, who is the head of the Go Daddy Cares charity division, visited Port-au-Prince and Les Cayes, Haiti. They brought much needed medical supplies to the areas. At the same time, Bob denied any speculation that the visit was made in order to negate the recent criticism of his visit to Africa in March. “The idea that I did this to counter any criticism is nonsense,” Parsons said. “This trip was planned months ago, our donations were delivered well before my Zimbabwe trip and the people who know me will tell you, I don’t really care what people think about me … I do care about using what success I’ve had to help those less fortunate.”
