July 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Reseller Hosting - cPanel / WHMReseller Hosting can add a good stream of revenue to your existing business and it can also complement your own products or services very well. In the next few months, I will post a series of tutorials that will show you how to manage your reseller hosting account as well as your customer’s hosting accounts.

One of the best known reseller hosting control panel is WHM or Web Host Manager. Part of the cPanel control panel bundle, WHM has two access levels: system administrator and reseller hosting.

Today we’ll start exploring WHM as a reseller by creating hosting packages.

A Hosting Package is nothing but a hosting plan. It defines the hosting features made available to your customers such as disk space, bandwidth, number of email accounts, number of databases, etc.

But prior to creating a Package, you’ll need to create a Feature List. This is the list of options that will be made available in your hosting packages.

How To Create A Feature List with WHM

Assuming you’re already logged in WHM (as a reseller of course, so that’s usually at http://www.yourdomain.com:2086), click on Feature Manager from the right column menu.

We’re going to create a “Standard” Feature List which with these options:

  • Addon CGI Scripts
  • Addon Domain Manager
  • Analog Stats
  • Email Authentication
  • Autoresponder Manager
  • Awstats Stats
  • Backup Manager
  • Bandwidth Stats
  • Email Filtering Manager
  • BoxTrapper Spam Trap
  • CGI Center
  • Virus Scanner
  • Java Clock, Java Coundown, Counter
  • Image Manager
  • Disk Usage Viewer
  • Email Scripts
  • Entropy Banner and Entropy Search
  • Error Log and Customer Error Pages
  • File Manager
  • Frontpage
  • FTP Account Manager and FTP Settings
  • Getting Started Wizard
  • Simple Guestbook
  • Hotlink
  • IP Deny Manager
  • Index Manager
  • Directory Selection Popup
  • Mime Types Manager
  • MySQL
  • Parked Domain Manager
  • Password Change
  • PGP/GPG
  • PhpMyAdmin
  • Email Account Manager
  • Raw Access Log
  • Redirect Manager
  • Simple CGI Wrapper
  • Server Status Viewer
  • Change Language
  • SpamAssassin and SpamAssassin Spam Box
  • Statistics Program Manager
  • Choose Log Programs
  • Subdomain Manager and Subdomain Stats
  • Trace Email Address
  • Update Contact Information
  • Video Tutorials
  • Webalizer Stats
  • Web Disk
  • Webmail
  • Webprotect
  • Backup Wizard

Now simply check these options and hit the Save button at the bottom.

Great, we have now built a nice feature list so in the next part of this tutorial, we’ll be able to build a hosting package based on these features.
