Import your Free Blog Data to Wordpress

November 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Blog Web HostingNew bloggers often start by choosing a free blogging service such as Blogger, LiveJournal or a hosted Wordpress blog. While this can be a viable solution for a basic blog, you could quickly feel the need for more flexibility like adding your own plugins, developing custom templates, etc.

When this happens, moving your website from a free blog host to your own blog could turn out to be a nightmare if it weren’t for Wordpress’ import feature.

How to Import from a free blog to Wordpress

Wordpress has made it quite easy to import content from another blogging platform. If you haven’t installed Wordpress yet, click here to learn how.

Next, follow these simple steps :

  1. Once logged in Wordpress, click on “Tools” from the menu on the left.
  2. Click on “Import” just right under “Tools”.
  3. Select the blogging service from which you wish to import data.
  4. Depending on the blogging service you’re importing from and simply follow the instructions given by the import wizard.

One you’re done importing your blog, make sure you’ve changed the name servers for your domain name if needed (that is, if you had your own domain name pointing to your free blog server). Also make sure to delete your free blog account to avoid duplicate content penalities from various search engines.
