New bloggers often start by choosing a free blogging service such as Blogger, LiveJournal or a hosted WordPress blog. While this can be a viable solution for a basic blog, you could quickly feel the need for more flexibility like adding your own plugins, developing custom templates, etc.
When this happens, moving your website from a free blog host to your own blog could turn out to be a nightmare if it weren’t for WordPress’ import feature.

Next, follow these simple steps :
One you’re done importing your blog, make sure you’ve changed the name servers for your domain name if needed (that is, if you had your own domain name pointing to your free blog server). Also make sure to delete your free blog account to avoid duplicate content penalities from various search engines.
