HSphere Tutorial: How To Use EasyApps

If you’re more or less experienced with Web Hosting, installing web applications like blogs or forums can be a total nightmare. Fortunately, there are some wonderful tools out there that will help you go through this process easily.

For H-Sphere users, there’s EasyApps, a great script installer. Within a few clicks (and little technical knowledge) you can setup your own blog, forum, shopping cart or photo album.

For this tutorial, I’ll be using my IX Web Hosting account. IX Web Hosting provides affordable web hosting with H-Sphere and EasyApps as well. And before going further, I suggest your read this tutorial on How To Enable EasyApps.

How To Use EasyApps

So head over to your H-Sphere control panel and click on the EasyApps icon. You will be brought with a list of all the available applications. Let’s install a shopping cart for instance. My favorite one is osCommerce but the other E-Commerce softwares are very good too.

Let’s click on osCommerce from the left column to begin the installation. On the next page, you’ll see a brief description of osCommerce as well as some links. Click the Install link at the bottom.

Next, select on which domain you want to install the shopping cart (if you host more than one domain on your account of course). You must also specify the path to the shopping cart. If you want the software to be installed at the root of your website, simply leave the Path field empty. Personnally, I prefer installing a shopping cart in a subdirectory like /store or /shop. Hit the Submit Query button when done.

At this point, EasyApps takes care of creating the database, adding tables, copying files and configuring the shopping. Isn’t that great?

If everything went correctly, you should now see message stating that the new application has been installed successfully. On the same page, you’ll see a link pointing to your website where the application has been installed. Click it to see the new application in action.
