How To Add Domain With cPanel Without Resolving

November 3rd, 2008 · 1 Comment

By default, cPanel will not allow users to add domains to their account unless they change their nameservers to point to your DNS servers. But you can change this by setting a configuration parameter through WHM.

Of course, you need to have your own dedicated server or VPS to do that. You can’t change this on a shared hosting account, you need to contact your web host if that’s the case.

How To Add Domain with cPanel Without Resolving

  1. Start by logging in your WHM control panel (usually located at http://www.yourwebsite.com:2086).
  2. Click on Tweak Settings from the left column menu, under Server Configuration.
  3. Now enable the parameter that says “Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that resolve to other servers (i.e. domain transfers) [This can be a major security problem. If you must have it enabled, be sure to not allow users to park common internet domains.]“
  4. Hit the Save button and you’re done!

You will now be able to add a domain that is using another set of DNS server than those of the web server.

Many thanks for this tip – I just spent a frustrating hour trying to create an simple domain alias until I found your post. Great stuff.
