cPanel Hosting – “Spamd Has Failed” Alerts

December 22nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Late last summer I just go two Elite cPanel VPS from Futurehosting, one located in Washington and the other one in Dallas. Both VPS were configured exactly the same, had the same updates applied, etc.

But just a few days ago, one of my VPS started to send me alerts every 5 minutes :

spamd failed @ Thu Dec 17 06:37:25 2009. A restart was attempted
automagically.

Service Check Method: [check command]

Cmd Service Check Raw Output: Spamd is not running

I finally found out it was a SpamAssassin update that had gone wrong. So if this is happening to you, log on to your server using SSH and execute this command :

/scripts/fixspamassassinfailedupdate

Hope this helped some of you!
