cPanel Basics: How To Setup An Autoresponder

July 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

cPanel Tutorial - Auto RespondersSummer is here and we finally get the chance to escape from the office! No cellphone, no pager and no emails.

If you’re not going to read your emails for awhile, the least you can do is to setup an auto responder. An auto responder will automatically reply to the emails sent to your inbox with a predefined message.

Let’s see how to setup an auto responder with cPanel.

This tutorial assumes that you’re already logged in cPanel. You cPanel skin or layout can differ from my InMostion Hosting account of course.

  1. Click on the Auto Responders icon.

  2. Click on the Add Auto-responder button.
  3. Enter the email address for which you want to setup the auto-responder.
  4. Specify from who’s name you want the reply to be.
  5. Enter the email subject.
  6. Enter the message that will be sent.

  7. You can use tags to insert information dynamically into the subject and body fields. For instance, if you’ve inserted the %subject% tag in one of these fields, it will be automatically replaced by the original email’s subject.
  8. When you’re done, click on the Create/Modify button and you’re done!

Now try sending an email to the one you’ve specified and see you get a response.

Although I’ve used the “I’m away” scenario for this tutorial, you could also setup an auto-responder for your customer support mailbox for example. This auto-responder would advise customers that their email has been received and that it will be taken care of.

Auto-responders are a nice way to maintain customer relationships by keeping them informed faster than you could manually.

hi

i followed the instructions to the letter and it worked. i am a newbie so when it came to the email section i used the begining of another email account as you do not specify what to put in this section.

when it came to the section “from” i take it that my name goes in there right?

when it comes to “subject” i don’t get what goes in there at all and you don’t give examples.

i set the auto reponder using your infomation how to setup an autoreponder. my question is do i have to setup multiple auto responders? and if so on what subjects “apart from me being on holiday”.
