BlueHost: How To Host Additional DomainsJuly 18th, 2008 · No CommentsAs you know, I’ve just signed up with BlueHost lately and so far so good! While they use cPanel, they’ve tweaked it a little to include some custom management modules. BlueHost allows you to host unlimited domains but how do you add an additional domain to your current hosting account? Let’s see how to do this. Of course, you must be logged in cPanel before going further. Once logged in, click on the Addon Domains icon from the Domains panel.
Once you clicked on the icon, you will be brought to BlueHost’s custom interface. From there, you’ll need to specify the additional domain you want to host on your account. If it’s a domain name you’ve registered with BlueHost, you can select it from a drop-down list but you can also enter a domain name registered elsewhere.
If you’re using a domain registered with another registrar, you’ll have to change the DNS servers to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. Since not all registrar have the same domain management interface, you’ll have to ask them how to do it if you don’t know how to proceed. So until you’ve changed the DNS for your domain name, you will not be able to assign it to your BlueHost account. Next you’ll need to specify if you’d like to assign this domain as a Parked Domain or as a Addon Domain. If you want to have a website for this additional domain, select Addon Domain. If you just want to use BlueHost’s nameservers but have no plan to have a website, select Parked Domain.
You will also need to specify where you want to store the web pages for this additional domain. The additional website will be hosted in a sub-directory of your main website (ie.: /public_html). You can leave the default value.
You must understand that the additional website content will be available from three different URLs:
So that’s it, you’ve got a new domain on your BlueHost account! If you’ve just changed the DNS for your domain name, it could take up to 48 hours to propagate around the world. Links: Related PostsPosted in Control Panels · Tutorials | No Comments |
