HostDime Interview

This is an interview with HostDime, a great web hosting company based in Florida. They have been in the hosting industry for over 6 years, offering website hosting, reseller hosting, VPS hosting and dedicated servers.

1. Please introduce yourself and HostDime. For how long has HostDime been in the web hosting industry and how did it start?

My name is Dan and I am the Sales Manager at HostDime. HostDime has been in business since 2002 and it started with a reseller plan and a goal to be the best in customer service. I think we are reaching that goal every day.

2. Does HostDime own their own data centers? If so, how many do you have and where are they located?

3. Where are your support centers located? Do you outsource technical support outside the U.S.?

We operate our headquarters here in Orlando, Florida. While most of our staff works here (from sales, billing, abuse/security to support), we do outsource some staff outside of the US for our off hours thus balancing our 24-hour support promise.

4. What level of training does your support staff have and to what extent will HostDime go to help out their customers?

Our staff have years of tech support and web server experience. We will help our customers in any way that we can, especially during server migrations and making sure their sites stay online during the process.

5. A part of the shared hosting industry is following the “unlimited storage and unmetered bandwidth” trend. Why isn’t HostDime going the same path?

The trend I have been seeing with unlimited space and bandwidth has two scenarios. Hosts offer one plan at one price with unlimited space and bandwidth or they offer tiered pricing with unlimited space and bandwidth but restrict the amounts for other features, such as mysql databases or e-mail accounts. Our business model just does not follow this fashion and we would rather offer a much more realistic amount of space and bandwidth while allowing you unlimited features with your hosting account. With tiered pricing you can upgrade as you grow and fit your costs with your business or personal needs.

6. Even though reseller hosting is very popular, a lot of people may not be aware of the possibilities. Care to share a few money-making ideas people could use with your reseller hosting plans?

We find that a lot of our customers love to design websites for themselves and change their layouts at least once a week. Why not monetize that skill and make websites for customers and package them with a hosting account using our reseller plans? A lot of people think that reseller hosting is just for those looking to start a web hosting business. Reseller plans work well for web designers as well.

7. HostDime sure has a wide range of dedicated hosting solutions. What can a customer expect from HostDime’s server management service?

We will setup, secure, and deploy your server and help you troubleshoot any issues you may have as you develop and grow you business.

8. Who provides HostDime’s bandwidth and how do you ensure your network stays up?

We currently have 3 Gig-E Level3 lines and 1 Gig-E Time Warner Telecom line coming into your datacenter. We ensure our network stays up by having two different bandwidth carriers, having two cisco routers setup in parallel, and redundant distrobution layer switches.

9. Moving from a web host to another can be quite complex sometimes. How can HostDime help new customers to move from their current web host?

If you are currently at another cPanel host we will be happy to do the full cPanel to cPanel transfer for you after your account is activated. If your previous host is using something other then cPanel, if you are able to provide us with a backup of your account we will be happy to attempt to restore this for you in your new account with us.
