One common characteristic of GoDaddy and NetworkSolutions is their in-house built control panel. Whereas other web hosting companies stick to the industry's standards, cPanel and Plesk, both companies have developed their own software.

While this may allow them to distinguish themselves from other web hosts, their custom-built control panels are a little bit harder to use than let's say cPanel.

GoDaddy has three control panels: one of account managenent, one for hosting account management and a third one for domain management. This can be particularly confusion for the less-experienced users, especially with the account management interface which is plastered with advertisements and offers all over the place.

On the bright side of things, when you finally find your way through Go Daddy's hosting account control panel, this one is very easy to use. It allows you to perform the most common management tasks such as creating email addresses, MySQL databases, protecting directories, etc.

Unfortunately, GoDaddy's control panel lacks the possibility of dowloading backups of your website and many users have complained about this. There is no other way to backup your GoDaddy website than to download all the files through FTP and making backups of your MySQL databases manually.

On the other hand, Network Solutions' control panel is very easy to use and provides you with all the necessary tools to manage your account (and yes, this includes backup). GoDaddy and Network Solutions are two of the most robust web host and it shows: there are barely any downtimes if any at all. But when it comes to speed and performance, Network Solutions is ahead of its competitor.

Our tests with GoDaddy showed that although their web servers are up almost 100% of the time, there are frequent timeouts, especially with their MySQL infrastructure. A simple Wordpress blog with less than 100 visitors per day would timeout regularly.
