Which web host should you choose between InMotion Hosting and StartLogic? There are many differences between both web hosts so you should examine them carefully before making a decision.

Founded in 2001, InMotion Hosting (review) has been providing a complete line of web hosting services including Personnal Website Hosting, Business Class Hosting, Virtual Private Servers and Dedicated Servers. They are quite successful and this family business takes pride in delivering the best service and products possible.

On the other hand, there is little no information regarding StartLogic’s history or location but they have been around for probably a few years. They offer Website Hosting, Virtual Private Servers and Dedicated Servers (although all their dedicated hosting plans have been “sold out” for a long time).

As far as shared hosting plans goes, both web hosts offer similar features: unlimited storage, unmetered bandwidth, PHP, Perl, CGI and MySQL.

But looking further, InMotion Hosting proves to be superior to StartLogic.

Here’s why:

• InMotion Hosting’s Business Class Plans benefit from top-notch hardware.
• They have daily backups whereas StartLogic only has weekly backups.
• InMotion Hosting offers cPanel, which is far superior from StartLogic’s control panel, vDeck.
• InMotion Hosting is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has an “A Rating”.

Looking at their Virtual Private Hosting packages, the gap between StartLogic and InMotion Hosting seems to be smaller as far as features goes. They both use Virtuozzo, a very good virtualization plateform.

But again, here’s why I would recommend InMotion Hosting over StartLogic:

• InMotion Hosting provides you with cPanel / WHM. While Plesk is a very good control panel too, StartLogic gives you a limited number of licences which limits the number of websites you can host on your VPS.
• InMotion Hosting uses RAID-5 hard drives which prevents the host server from crashing in case a disk fails.
• StartLogic does not provide the minimum amount of memory allocated to your VPS so you don’t know how much resources you really have.
• InMotion Hosting provides backups.
• InMotion Hosting provides multiple IP addresses whereas StartLogic only provides one IP per VPS.

Conclusion

Even though the final decision is up to you, I strongly recommend InMotion Hosting over StartLogic. Not only do they provide some more robust infrastructures than StartLogic, they also have some great support available all around the clock.

And while I haven’t had any issues with StartLogic myself, the number of negative comments found over some popular forums are enough to convince me to go with InMotion Hosting.
