HostGator Vs Lunarpages: Reseller Hosting ComparisonSeptember 11th, 2008 · No Comments
Some web hosts base their pricing on the number of customer accounts you have while others have a fixed priced based on your reseller hosting plan features. If you’re looking to get into reseller hosting, HostGator and Lunarpages are two great web hosts to start with. If you’ve never heard of them, I suggest you read my introductory post on Lunarpages Vs HostGator first. Lunarpages’ has a Reseller Hosting plan available at the very low price of $5.00 per month. On the other hand, HostGator has five Reseller Hosting plans, priced from $24.95 to $99.95 per month. So what’s the big difference between these two reseller hosting providers and why such a big difference in pricing?
Lunarpages Vs Hosting - Reseller Hosting Plan ComparisonThe way Lunarpages sets their features is way different than HostGator. Instead of giving you a reseller hosting plan on which you can host as many customers as you want (or as you can), you need to purchase a plan for each of your accounts. So it all depends on how many customers you plan to have and how much resources you intend to give to each of them (which can be difficult to determine in advance). As far as scripting languages support goes, both web hosts basically have the same thing to offer: PHP, Perl, CGI, Ruby on Rails, ASP, MySQL and PostgreSQL. They also both offer cPanel which is a great thing. Unfortunately Lunarpages doesn’t offer SSH support though.
Now here’s the major difference between Lunarpages and HostGator. Lunarpages’ pricing is based on the number of customer accounts you need:
As far as I’m concerned, I really don’t like Lunarpages’ pricing structure. You see, suppose you have 10 customer accounts which all use 200MB each in average, it would cost you $720 per year ($72 x 10 customers). Using the same scenario with HostGator, you could use the Aluminum plan (of which you’d use only 10% of the allocated disk space!) and end up with a $299.40 bill for a year. And you’d still have plenty of space for your own website (and many additional customers too). So that said, I strongly recommend HostGator over Lunarpages. They both have great reseller hosting packages but Lunarpages’ pricing doesn’t make sense in my opinion. LinksRelated PostsPosted in Web Hosting Comparisons | No Comments |
