InMotion Hosting Vs GoDaddy VPS ComparisonWelcome to our second round of our comparison between InMotion Hosting and GoDaddy.

Last time we’ve compared both web hosts’ shared hosting features and now we’re going to have a deeper look into their Virtual Dedicated Server plans.

While GoDaddy offers Windows VPS Hosting, we’ll compare only their Linux VPS plans as InMotion Hosting doesn’t offer Windows servers.

Let’s take a look at their VPS features.

Performance & Reliability

While it’s technically not impossible to run a VPS on only 256MB of RAM, I would hesitate between a VPS with low RAM an Business Class shared hosting at this point.

If you’re going to invest enough money in web hosting to get a VPS, I suggest you get at least 512MB of RAM unless you don’t need to host more than one low-traffic website.

The two best VPS plans here are GoDaddy’s Premium plan and InMotion Hosting 512M plan. With 80GB of storage space and 5 IP address, InMotion Hosting 512M VPS is almost a true dedicated server.

InMotion Hosting use nothing less than commercial grade Dell Servers with 16GB of RAM, multiple quad xeon processors, RAID 5 and 15k SAS drives. Their network is connected to the Internet through 3 separate providers with an on demand capacity exceeding 7,500 MBits.

InMotion Hosting makes a backup of your VPS once a week and you get a free restore once every four months. If you need FTP backups, both web hosts offer optional storage plans.

Features

Go Daddy’s Economy Plan and Deluxe Plan feature their Simple Control Panel which in my opinion is a lot less complete and mature than cPanel. If you need to have cPanel / WHM, then you’ll have to go with either GoDaddy’s Premium plan or any of InMotion Hosting’ plans.

cPanel is the best control panel for Linux-based web servers. It comes with WHM (or Web Host Manager) for server-level management. Pretty much everything is integrated into WHM, from security and intrusion detection to software package management and updates. Of course it also allows you to perform common tasks such as creating user and reseller accounts, managing services, DNS, backup / restore operations and clustering.

Both web hosts offer a decent amount of IP addresses but if you’re going to use two of those for nameservers, you might want to go with InMotion Hosting and have 5 IPs.

Pricing

While InMotion Hosting does not have a VPS plan as cheap as GoDaddy’s Economy Plan, I think it’s a no-brainer here: you get twice as much resources (or almost) for less with InMotion Hosting than with GoDaddy’s Deluxe and Premium Plan.

GoDaddy isn’t bad here but InMotion Hosting gives you more for your money.
