Superb Internet Launches New Lease to Own Programs for All Dedicated Servers

October 28th, 2009

Superb Internet Launches Own to Lease Program for Dedicated ServersSuperb Internet’s (official website here) new leap of faith to let all dedicated server customers and resellers buy their own servers on a lease-to-own program is a move to attract more business customers to buy the company’s web hosting services.

The deal is a perfectly good method for businesses to write-down more of their web hosting costs against tax, which is why the benefit is aimed at dedicated server users and resellers rather than personal customers, who would gain no tax advantage.

Until this announcement, lease-to-own deals were available through Superb Internet for top-end dedicated server packages only.

So how do Superb make their money if they are allowing their larger customers to buy their own servers?

The small print reveals co-location fees for Superb Internet providing a data center slot for the equipment, plus maintenance and software upgrades starting at $99 a month, so the true cost of savings is not necessarily that quoted on the Superb Internet web site.

For instance, the calculator claims a user will save about $15,000 over five years by paying $349 over 12 months for a dual processor Intel Xeon E5520 2.26GHz dedicated server – but does not indicate whether the $99 a month co-location fee is included in the calculation.

“We understand that in tough economic times customers are looking for more and more value, and we believe this is one of the best deals out there,” states William Song, Senior Product Manager. “This represents a paradigm shift in the relationship between customer and web host, offering much more transparency in the billing practices.”

“At other web hosts customers are typically forced to pay outrageous ongoing monthly fees for hardware that is often 3-4 years old. With the Superb lease-to-own program customers always know that they have paid off their hardware after year 1, and the low ongoing fees simply represent, space, power, AC, support, and bandwidth among other costs.

“If customers wish to upgrade their server they can do so at wholesale rates, and if they decide to leave they can have the server shipped to them, because they own it! Compare that to most companies where customers end up paying thousands of dollars more (many times the cost of the server hardware) and end up with nothing when they cancel.”

Once a business owns the server and wants to take possession of the equipment, Superb Internet will either ship the server or customers can call and collect from the company’s data centers in Maclean VA or Seattle WA.

Superb Internet was founded in 1996 at Honolulu and has customers in 150 countries.
