Rackspace now has Cloud Servers for Windows

August 23rd, 2010

Rackspace was one of the early movers and shakers in the world of cloud computing, with their Cloud Servers offering bringing users the critical advantage of instantly scalable servers. The offering lets you get online within minutes, with access to a control panel that lets you stay in control. Until now, Cloud Servers was available only in a variety of Linux distributions, but the company has added to its catalog with a new Cloud Servers for Windows release.

Rackspace Cloud - Windows Server

With all the same features as the Linux version, Cloud Servers for Windows offers very competitive pricing starting at $0.08 per hour. Users will also enjoy the same service level agreement they have come to expect from Rackspace. The company released the Windows version after a thorough beta program that took feedback from users to make sure all issues are addressed.

Because the Rackspace offering is based on a Microsoft-supported hypervisor, customers benefit from support provided by Microsoft as well as Rackspace. The association with Microsoft also delivers the benefit of faster time to market releases of Windows versions on the cloud. Server size starts at 1,024 MB RAM with a 40GB disk size and 30Mbps throughput. Linux versions do start at a smaller size factor, and the Microsoft price menu is slightly higher than Linux to account for the Microsoft license fees.

Like all Rackspace Cloud Server offerings, the Windows implementation is instantly scalable both upwards and downwards, allowing you to account for traffic spikes.
