Go Daddy’s well known as one of the world’s leading domain registrars – with 36 millions domains under management for over 7 million customers. But they’re also growing significant market share as a web-hosting provider.
That’s why their recent announcement about opening a data center facility in the Netherlands aimed specifically at European customers is of great interest to hosting industry observers. The data center’s exact location has not yet been revealed but Amsterdam, as a key Internet connectivity hub, is a likely contender.
Web site owners with customers and visitors from European countries will welcome Go Daddy’s hosting plans because it dramatically reduces the latency time for network packets to travel between a website and a browser located somewhere in Europe. This means faster application response – at least comparable to what US-based web browsers are used to when surfing sites physically located in N. America.
Go Daddy’s marketing plans include picking up web hosting business in Germany, France, the U.K. and Spain where Internet penetration is more than twice the world average.
In characteristic fashion, Go Daddy’s CEO, Bob Parsons, said that “No one will take better care of our customers than we will — no one, By spending the money up front and not outsourcing operations, we control key factors like uptime, security and speed.”
Spain is seen as a particularly attractive market and Go Daddy is offering Spain’s national domain name extension, .ES. Spanish customers also have a local phone number with Spanish speaking support.
Future plans for Go Daddy’s European data center include web-based email and virtual dedicated servers. Initially the company will concentrate on shared hosting plans at the European facility – which will be built, owned and operated by Go Daddy.
Go Daddy enables individuals and businesses to establish, maintain and grow their online presence. Go Daddy offers a variety of domain name registration plans and Web site design and hosting packages.
