Is it good to administer your site yourself or shift the work to some other person?
Many site owners focus more on naturally developing, maintaining as well as enhancing their website. But, this is only one part of managing the whole business, as there are lots of other things involved in the process. We get so indulge in the process that no or a little time is left for concentrating on technical administration that includes database management, establishment, email administration, fixing bugs, security, email management and other things.
We know this is important but the cost factor resists us from paying for the technical help, when the business is still new and in struggling phase.
Consulting an expert regarding the issue is a sheer wastage of time and money that could be anything from a few dollars for one hour to more than $100. What makes the entire process more complicated is the poor skills and the quality of work offered by a service provider after charging a heavy fee.
Hiring permanent employees for the work means more salaries, more employment taxes and other problems. Another option is to pay server and website administration for handling the work along with the web hosting package. This will cost you less. One drawback of taking their help is that the staff will be loaded with the similar work for dozens of other sites, which means a very little attention will be given to your project.
For a beginner or new website owner, the technical requirements for site administration might be a difficult thing. But, if you gain a little bit experience and familiarity with the things, the process becomes really simple. There is no doubt that administration is fairly basic in most of the cases and the task involved is repetitive. You can learn all this easily. Practicing on a test site or a free hosting site is a good idea as it does not involve any risk or cost.
After you have overcome the very first hurdle, rest of the administration work becomes easy and you might find it interesting also. By handling the work yourself, you will be able to get some additional control on total product. The best part of all this is that you are the only one getting credit for the work.
You can become a better judge than the hired staff or the consultant because you have a real life, learning experience. It’s easy to come to a judgment if you have solved a problem yourself rather than some other person giving you an assessment. You will be the better judge to calculate the time required in fixing the problem rather than the estimation given by your service provider.
We are not aware of the variety of unseen factors that contribute to the proper function of a website. But, these systems can create a problem for us anytime. Therefore, handling the situation yourself is a better option than relying on some hired employee or a service consultant. This will not only save you lots of bucks but also improve your expertise in the field.
On the other hand, one must not lose focus on the business’ most lucrative activities. If your main role in your business is worth more than hiring a system administrator then you should do so.
