cPanel Troubleshooting : Warning! You Are Logged In With the Reseller or Root Password

January 28th, 2009

cPanelIf you have a VPS or a Dedicated Server, you might have encountered the following error message when logging in cPanel :

Warning! You Are Logged In With the Reseller or Root Password

Even though you’ve correctly logged out of your previous WHM session, the error message still appears when logging in cPanel. The problem itself isn’t that critical but it prevents from using some cPanel features such as phpMyAdmin.

Well here’s the cause : your reseller account uses the same password as the root account. The solution is simple : simply change your root password to a more complex one is the error message will go away.

What happens if it is a dedicated server and all the accounts belong to the same owner. It is extremely convenient to log in at the root. How do I deactivate this message entirely?

You can’t deactivate this message. Other functionalities such as phpMyAdmin doesn’t work when logged in as root.

I’m using windows XP and Internet Explorer 8.

When I open the File Manager, I do not see the files in the public_html folder or in the public_ftp folder.

It happened before. But I was able to correct it with help. Someone suggested that I enable
“Allow active control to run in files in My Computer” in the Advanced section of the Internet Options. It worked; I was able to see my files.

But this time it does not seem to work. I feel I am stuck. I cannot upload my files nor can I edit them. People at the Webhosting pad cannot help me. All they suggest is that I use FireFox. When I use FireFox, I run into other problems.

I will appreciate any help you can give.

@T H Kwon: I never ran into this problem but perhaps you could try adding your FQDN or IP address to IE’s list of trusted hosts.

IE => Tools => Internet Options => Security => Trusted Sites => Sites => Add this website

You may have to check / uncheck “Require server verification (https)

Let me know if it worked.
