Nice comparison. I use GoDaddy Linux Shared Hosting, and am pretty happy with it so far.

You might want to update your table, since GoDaddy now has SSH access for Linux Shared Hosting (at least with Deluxe).

Thanks,
Iggy

I prefer GoDaddy as their customer service earn a 5 star out of 5 star rating. Everytime I call, things always get taken care of. 1and1 is not bad but the overall new interface on Godaddy's domain management console is superbly easy since I have many domains with 1 Deluxe Hosting service. The sales gave me 20% discount just out of courtesy for my 2 year renewal.

Thanks for the evaluation of these two companies. I have been using 1&1 for about 2 years and have no complaints at all. Any issue I have run into has been because I am a relative novice at publishing websites, and I have actually learned a lot through the 1&1 tech support process. I have read horror stories about them, but thankfully have not experienced problems getting support myself.

I was thinking of switching to Go Daddy to change things up, but as a 1&1 Business plan customer, I think I am getting more for the dollar at 1&1.

I look forward to reading some of your other comparisons.

I once got a refund very easily. I called Billing bfore the 90 day MBG period, told them I wanted my refund (I had not used the ppc vouchers, or other software, I did not sign up under a special offer (which often have min. contract periods, and no money back policies to prevent abuse)) the billing guy transfered me to someone named Jan. He walked me through the cancelation process, and issued a refund/credit back to my card.

Now if you sign up for any hosting plan under a "special offer" I can believe that you might get locked in to a 1 yr deal with no MBG, but at least 1and1 gives you the option to accpet the special offers or not. (They do seem to have some great deals each month.)

I will continue to use them for my client's sites. I am one of the happy 1and1 customers.

Have you ever tried to get a refund from 1&1? Good luck. Also check out the fine print on their "Guarantee", it does not apply to specially priced packages. They only offer specially priced packages, so in fact they guarantee nothing.

Godaddy's support staff is much better, not perfect, but a lot better than 1&1.

I have been developing sites for clients for over 8 years, 1&1 is the worst hosting company I have had to deal with. Stay away.
